Summer School and Workshops
In 2011, I will be running three week long Summer Schools and a number of short tasters.
Dates are:
Easter Stone Carving Week: Mon 11th to Fri 15th April (FULLY BOOKED)
Summer Stone Carving Week: Mon 25th to Friday 29th July
Summer Life Class Week: Mon 8th to Fri 12th August
Introduction to Stone Carving: Sat 10th to Sun 11th September
Introduction to Lettercutting: Sat 22nd to Sun 23rd October
These courses are designed to develop the skills of people of all levels of experience in stone carving, modelling, mould-making and drawing.
For some people, it's an absolute introduction to the basic skills and for others it's an opportunity to work alongside other experienced artists with a tutor on hand for a bit of additional nous.
I passionately believe in people enjoying the process of learning and luckily, my workshop offers a nice friendly environment in which to so this. It sits in the lea of the woods in which Thomas Hardy grew up; in fact, within a stone's throw of the cottage in which he was born.
Students often enjoy a break in the beautiful surrounding Dorset countryside and often choose to work outside when it is fine.
Stone is supplied at cost, tools can be loaned to beginners and most days we all share a lunch break. Fees are £200 for the 5 day course and £100 for the weekend courses.
The Life Class will include 3 days working with a model, either drawing or modelling in clay with a proper demonstration of constructing armatures, followed by two days of mould-making and casting. Fee for this 5 day course will be £230 plus cost of clay or materials.
